Jerome’s first love is horse racing. Growing up in a horse racing family, he and his four brothers all followed in their fathers footsteps and raced Standardbred horses. At the age of 17 Jerome left home and journeyed west to British Columbia where he began his career. He owned, trained, and drove his own horses for much of his career. At times he worked for other trainers, including his father. He was fortunate enough to race at tracks all over North America, from British Columbia to New York.
At the age of 23, while working in Sacramento California racing horses, Jerome’s career was cut short (so we thought) by a devastating water-skiing accident that left him confined to a wheelchair. After five months in the hospital, Jerome defied the odds and returned to horse racing. He became the first wheelchair bound horse trainer. An inspiration to many, Jerome travelled for the next 8 years racing horses before deciding to pursue a career helping at-risk youth.
He returned to British Columbia where he spent the next twenty five years working with vulnerable youth, and developing and implementing innovative programs for youth. He receive numerous awards and acknowledgements for his work.
However, in 2014, Jerome got the horse racing bug again. With his wife Maryna and close friends, he returned to racing on a part-time basis British Columbia, where he is currently training a small stable of four horses, as well as having a couple racing in California.
